As we grow up, each day presents a new opportunity to learn and to thrive. And so it is with this city we call home, ceaselessly reinventing itself over time while spawning many men and women of talent. Now, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, the Information Services Department is organising a poster design competition and a video competition to explore how Hong Kong can better itself even further. So get your creative juices flowing and tell us your aspirations for this great city in your own talented way.

Format and Criteria

  • "When I'm 20 … " Poster Design Competition (Primary School Category)
    "What will it be like when I'm 20?" Will we have robot teachers? Maybe a mini-city underneath Causeway Bay, or a bridge across Victoria Harbour? Will there be people living on Mars? What kind of jobs will there be? We welcome all primary pupils to let their imaginations run free to show us what their life will be like when they are 20.
    1. All entries must be created based on the theme "When I'm 20 … " and submitted with a title of no more than 20 words and a description of creative concept of up to 100 words in Chinese or English.
    2. Participants are free to use paintings, photographs, collages and any combinations of these or other media/materials in their work.
    3. All entries must not be larger than A3 in size (297 x 420 mm). All images and text must fit within a single layout.
    4. Both Chinese and English text will be accepted.
    5. All entries must be flat design graphics in less than 5 mm thick.
    6. Participants must fill in the enrolment form, and send it by mail together with the entries to:
      1. Ming Pao Newspapers Limited, Marketing Department, 15/F, Block A, Ming Pao Industrial Centre, 18 Ka Yip Street, Chai Wan, Hong Kong, or

    7. Entries must be sent by mail.  Entries submitted online via the website or sent by email will be disqualified.

  • "Togetherness" Video Competition (Secondary School and Open Category)
    Hong Kong is a fusion metropolis in many ways, blending East and West, urban and natural, modern and traditional. Together, we have created this great city we call home. Together, we can take it to even greater heights. What is it that brings us together and makes us stronger ...
    1. All entries must be created based on the theme "Togetherness" and submitted with a title of not more than 20 words and a description of creative concept of up to 100 words in Chinese or English.
    2. All entries must be no more than two minutes in length.
    3. Text, graphic or multimedia creations can be included in the film.
    4. All entries must be in 720p and mp4 file format.  Uploaded files cannot be more than 150MB in size. [*Participants must retain the original file until the jury panel has made its final decision on 31 March 2017]
    5. Entries must include Chinese or English subtitles.
    6. Participants may apply individually or as a group of no more than four members.
    7. Individual or group participants can submit more than one entry.
    8. Individual participants or groups should fill in the enrolment form and upload it to the competition website www.hksar20contests.com. The entries and the enrolment form can also be sent by mail to:

    9. All entries must be original. Any entry that has been published, submitted to other competitions or broadcast openly in any form of media will be disqualified.

      • One winner in each category
      • Champion: HK$3,000 scholarship and trophy
      • 1st Runner-up: HK$2,000 scholarship and trophy
      • 2nd Runner-up: HK$1,000 scholarship and trophy
    • Merit awards
      • 10 winners in each category
      • Each winner will receive a HK$500 scholarship and a trophy
  • Open Category
    • Champion, 1st and 2nd Runners-up
      • Champion: HK$5,000 cash prize and trophy
      • 1st Runner-up: HK$3,000 cash prize and trophy
      • 2nd Runner-up: HK$2,000 cash prize and trophy
    • Merit awards
      • 10 winners
      • Each winner will receive a HK$500 cash prize and a trophy
  • The "Most Enthusiastic School" awards for Primary and Secondary School
    • Three winners in each category
      • Each winner will receive a HK$1,000 book coupon and a trophy
  • Participants can choose to receive a certificate.

    2. Visual effect and use of graphics (25%)
    3. Relevance to the theme (25%)
    4. Content and writing skills (10%)
  • "Togetherness" Video Competition (Secondary School Category and Open Category):
    1. Creativity (40%)
    2. Relevance to the theme (30%)
    3. Visual effect (15%)
    4. Impact (15%)

Panel of Judges

Composed of representatives from Information Services Department, Education Bureau,  Ming Pao and South China Morning Post with Creative writer/Film director.
